It found the brightest galaxy in the Universe

NASA astronomers have discovered the brightest galaxy in the universe. It is located at a distance of 12.5 billion light years from Earth and emits light at 300 trillion times stronger than the Sun .

WISE J224607.57-052635.0

According to the official website of NASA, the discovery was made on the basis of data obtained in 2010 a space infrared telescope WISE. New galaxy was named WISE J224607.57-052635.0. In addition, US astronomers have discovered more about two dozen very bright galaxies that are visible only in the infrared. They were listed in a new class of cosmic objects.

Scientists believe that increased brightness of galaxies caused by the presence of a supermassive black hole. "These galaxies are under very intensive evolution. They attract gas and a substance that form around them wheels, heated to temperatures of millions of degrees and emit high energy, as well as the visible, ultraviolet and X-rays. Enveloping black hole dust clouds are not transmit light, but the dust is heated and provides infrared radiation ", - explained the employee of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena Chao-Wei Tsai, who led the team of scientists who have studied these orbital observatory WISE.

According to him, these galaxies have not been found because of its remoteness. Also, the scientists prevented that dust makes them a strong visible light in an incredibly rapid infrared radiation. "We found that half of the brightest galaxies are clearly visible only in the infrared range" - quoted Wei Tsai Chao-TASS.

Recall that the telescope WISE went into orbit in December 2009, but after a couple of years, twice received the image the entire celestial sphere, and fulfill its primary mission was transferred to the "sleep mode". By that time, the device transmitted to Earth over 2.7 million images of space objects, including the most distant galaxies. WISE has helped open more than 33 thousand asteroids in the belt between Mars and Jupiter, 20 comets and 134 objects that are at a relatively close distance from our planet - their movement trajectory passes within 45 million kilometers from the Earth's orbit. The project cost $ 320 million.

In September 2013, WISE was "awakened" to proceed to the observation of asteroids, and other objects in near space, representing a potential danger to Earth. In connection with the new task of the unit was given a new name - NEOWISE.
